What will happen if you do open the door
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
When it comes to becoming aware of what is out there, you need to have a level head. If you are easily freaked out, this isn't for you. I'll give you a short overview of things that I, and others, have confirmed as being 'out there'. And then I'll give a few experiences that I had growing up, which make me really wonder why you are even here, attempting to learn how to do this.
All of the beings I will be listing can do any of the things that are listed below. Deciphering between one or the other is difficult, more so for beginners.

All of the beings I will be listing can do any of the things that are listed below. Deciphering between one or the other is difficult, more so for beginners.
- Feeling- Many people have the ability to 'feel' if somebody else is with them.
- Touch- A few spirits have the ability to physically touch you. This can be something like brushing your hair aside, to laying in bed beside you, to actually clawing you or choking you.
- Hearing- You'll hear whispers first, most likely. I've met more people that can hear spirits than feel them. But once you start becoming more aware of them, you'll hear them talking, or even yelling.
- Seeing- This seems to be the hardest ability to develop/find. It's usually accompanied by all three other senses. But rarely is it reliable. It will come and go, or it will be on all the time. There's really no in-between.
- Ghosts (the spirits of humans that have died, gone through the 'veil/heaven' and come back to visit.)
- Souls (the spirits of humans that have died, NOT gone through the 'veil/heaven' and are stuck in this plane until assisted in leaving. But most of the time they go on their own.)
- Imprints (energy that has been left behind from a moment that either - a)happened repeatedly or b) was a high energy/emotion moment. This is typically what people see when they see something that happens every day, at the same time, in the same way.)
- Poltergeist(usually created by humans with psychic talents. Also, usually only created when the person has no control over their emotions. Should, typically, be treated as a ghost or demon, but complications will always arise because they are created by someone nearby. )
- Fey(spirits that were never human, and have their own defined classification system.)
- Demons(another kind of spirit that was never human, and has their own defined classification system)
- Deities(honestly, I want to say the same thing here, but they are infinitely more powerful than the other two, and are typically one of a kind in personality.)
Tips:
- Ghosts lie. Both verbally, and visually. You'll hear lies, and you'll see lies. They can, depending on how long dead they are, change the way you view them. They can look like the grim reaper. They can look like a zombie. They can look like your grandmother, if you have a picture of her available to it. They can look like a dog, or like a mist. Or a detached head chasing after you. (I'm not even kidding you on that one)
- Just knowing this bit of information will help you begin to see 'past' what they want you to see. Question what you see (in your head, mind you, not out loud) and look harder at them. This will usually be a turning point when you blink.
Experiences:- From the time I was born, I could hear spirits. Whispers at night, someone tickling my feet as I slept. Pulling the covers down slightly, or laying in bed beside me.
- When I was 5, I was playing tea in my room. I looked over at my closet, at my toybox (which was big enough for a person to lay in, I was spoiled) and ran out of the room screaming. I told my mother, that I saw the crypt keeper in my room. (which happened to be my grandmothers favorite show, tales from the crypt) But walking back to the room with her, proved useless, as the being I saw was gone. ---15 years later, I was still swearing up and down that I saw that fucking crypt keeper in my toy box! It wasn't until I started watching CSI that I realized that what I had really seen was a burn victim. Oddly enough, the apartments we were living in when I was 5 had burnt down and been rebuilt before we moved there.
