Centering & grounding
A lot of techniques for centering and grounding yourself are also synonymous with 'opening the door'. So be careful.
- Meditation- Not everybody has the patience for this. I find that it works better if you are comfortable. Lets face it, sitting Indian style starts to hurt after a while. How can you achieve inner peace if you are hurting yourself for it! ...well...there are cultures, Shamanism for one, that do just that, but that's not what we're about! Make yourself comfortable before settling down to look inside yourself.
- Nature Walks- Be a tree hugger! ...I'm kidding... you don't have to hug a tree. But placing your palm on its trunk and sending your energy into it will help ground you. Feel your energy flowing through the trunk and into the roots that spread far below you through the ground. Imagine your own roots coming from you, keeping you from floating away. Feel the branches reaching up into the sky, dancing in the wind, and yet not falling from that great height. There is something to be said about tree magic. The Druids had it right.
- Gardening- probably one of the best way to ground yourself, is to get your hands in the dirt. Feel the life that comes from it. The life that comes from the death inside of the dirt. It's pretty amazing, especially from a scientific standpoint.
- Working with herbs- If you don't have a green thumb, you needn't worry! You can still use the herbs. Buying them from a farmers market, or dry online, you can still find ways to work with them. Teas, potions, salves, candles, tinctures, sachets, dream pillows, talisman, can all be made with herbs. The natural energy of the herbs you work with offer their own kind of grounding experience, if you enjoy working with them.
- Working in the kitchen- Many find that they enjoy this so much that they call themselves 'kitchen witches', as this is where they work most of their magic. Learning kitchen magic, and how to apply it, opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for cleansing, protection, and grounding.
- Dancing in the rain- when the weather allows it, of course. I find that simply standing out in the rain, barefoot, with my feet touching the dirt beneath me, is very good to both ground, and cleanse myself.
- Reading- Many find that the act of reading can be grounding when they are having a bad day. It helps one to relax, and find enjoyment in the moment.
