Cleansing & warding your surroundings
Burning white sage and walking it through a home is usually the easiest way to cleanse an area, but there are a few other ways, for those who can't burn sage.
Warding is done a bit differently. Here's a few different ways.
- Taking salt, mix it into a bowl of rain water. Then, go throughout your space, sprinkling the water on the walls, doors, windows, corners (don't forget the ceiling corners, if you can!). Practice expanding your energy as you do so, doing a 'wipe down' of the walls using this energy. Visualization is key here.
- If you can burn incense, this makes a good replacement for white sage bundles.
- Infusing rosemary in water, and using a spray bottle to spray it around your space works well.
Warding is done a bit differently. Here's a few different ways.
- You can choose an animal that you feel close to, and buy a statue of it that feels right. Sending your energy into it, you give it a name, and proclaim it your homes guardian.
- If you feel comfortable with runes, go through the meaning of runes and pick the ones that you feel apply to your purpose. A darkly brewed green tea works well to apply to the side of a windowsill with a paint brush. (I actually use loose green tea mixed with ashes of white sage in a little bit of water for this.)
- The type of stone you feel most connected with works well as a focal point for spell-work. Especially for warding. Hematite in particular is good for absorbing negative energies, though you'll have to keep an eye on it. It will sometimes burst, or 'lose' itself when it becomes too full of energy.
- Otherwise, try Googling different types of wards that you feel comfortable casting. Candle magic works well for this purpose as well.
